Download Members-Only and Private YouTube Videos
Online downloaders cannot fetch members-only, private, or age-restricted videos, because their servers cannot log into your YouTube account. A desktop app like VidSnag uses your own logged-in browser session instead, so it can save content you already have a right to access, such as your own channel memberships and your own private or unlisted uploads.
If you have ever pasted a members-only link into a website and watched it fail, this is why. The page lives on a server that has never signed in as you, so YouTube hides the video from it. VidSnag runs on your own computer and reads the session you are already logged into, which means it can reach the same videos you can already watch, and only those.

Download VidSnag freeWhy online tools fail at login-gated videos
The reason is structural, not a bug. An online downloader is a webpage running on a remote server. When you paste a link, that server is the one asking YouTube for the file, and the server has no Google account, no membership, and no permission. YouTube simply returns "video unavailable" or asks it to sign in, which it cannot do. The downloader companies say this openly: 4K Download notes that its tools cannot grab private or members-only content because they have no access to your account, and the open-source yt-dlp project documents a cookies-from-browser option precisely so the tool can reuse the session of a browser you are already signed into. A desktop app can read that local session. A website on a far-away server cannot.
What this covers
VidSnag can reach the login-gated content that you personally have the right to see:
- Members-only videos from channels you actually pay to support, while your membership is active.
- Private videos that are your own uploads, or that an owner has shared directly with your account.
- Unlisted videos that you have the link to and are allowed to view.
- Age-restricted videos that your signed-in account is already permitted to watch.
The common thread is access you already have. VidSnag does not unlock anything new. It saves a local copy of what your own logged-in account can already open.
How to download a members-only or private video
- Get VidSnag. Download and open the app. No account, nothing to sign up for.
- Sign in to YouTube in your browser. Log in to the same Google account that already has access to the video, so your membership or permission is live.
- Copy the video link. Open the video you can watch and copy its link from the address bar.
- Paste and download. Drop the link into VidSnag. It reads your logged-in session, confirms you can access the video, and saves it to the folder you choose.

Responsible use
Only download content you own or are authorized to access. That means your own channel memberships while they are active, your own private and unlisted uploads, and videos a creator has deliberately shared with your account. VidSnag does not let you reach anything your signed-in account cannot already open, and it is not a way around paying creators or around a channel's terms. Please respect the people who made the work and follow YouTube's terms of service. If you mainly want public videos, the regular YouTube downloader covers that, and our guide on whether it is safe to download videos walks through the safety side.
Frequently asked questions
Can it download private videos I don't have access to?
No. VidSnag only reaches videos your own signed-in account can already open. If you cannot watch a video in your browser, VidSnag cannot save it either.
Does it need my YouTube password?
No. It never asks for a password. It reads the session from a browser you are already logged into, the same way the browser itself stays signed in.
How does it reach members-only videos when websites can't?
Online tools run on a server that has never signed in as you. VidSnag runs on your computer and reuses your own logged-in session, so it sees the same videos you do.
Can I save my own private uploads?
Yes. If a private or unlisted video is your own upload, or was shared with your account, you can save a local copy of it.
Does it work with age-restricted videos?
Yes, as long as your signed-in account is already allowed to watch them. It relies on the access your account already has.
Is this legal?
You are responsible for what you download. It is meant for content you own or are authorized to access, like your own memberships and uploads. Respect copyright, the creators, and YouTube's terms.
Will my membership still need to be active?
Yes. Members-only access depends on your active membership. If you cancel, your account loses access and so does VidSnag.
Is VidSnag free and safe?
Yes. It is completely free, runs locally on your PC, and is open source on GitHub with a published SHA-256 checksum so you can verify it yourself.
